Tony, I used to use hydorchloric acid to kill aptaisia, I'd inject them with a syringe and needle. Would probably work well on these things as well. No, a small bit of HCL will not affect water quality.

You can buy it as Muriatic acid at Canandian Tire. It's a 37% solution, I recall.
