I used pvc for my aquascaping in my 68g. Quite happy with the way it turned out. Will deffinatly be doing more of it when I convert the 110g to a reef. Check out my thread if ya want. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36173

What size PVC did you use?

I'm thinking of using 1/2" to support eggcrate shelving and then just making it to fit around a few rocks.

I used 3/4". I drilled it every couple inches to allow for circulation. Someone who came to pick up some frags from me made the suggestion to cap off the open ends, and hook up a powerhead to it. I might try this in the new tank. If you want some help with it let me know.

I'm using the shelves mostly for grow out purposes, and for QT as well. I'm now not sure if I am even going to put rock in the display. Maybe I'll just do a small display with eggcrate and then a large sump/fuge with rock.

Let me know how your new tank works out. I am curious about it.

I have to go down into the scary crawl space to look for PVC before I head out to buy some. Did you just use zip ties, or did you use Weldon type prodocuts?

I used a combination of zip ties and underwater putty. The rocks were a little wonky with just the zip ties, so I mashed in some putty here and there to firm things up.

I hope a combo a zip ties, superglue and weldon work. I want these frag racks to turn out well the first time! FYI eggcrate is a PITA to clean up after. I cut my racks a few days ago and I'm STILL finding pieces of white chips.
