![]() funny i just logged on to find a cheato too from what i hear cheato is real good at cleaning the nitrates from your water the bad part is you can also have a fuge crash if not taken care of properly by that i mean the cheato needs to be pruned every so often to stop it from dissolving itself and releasing all the bad stuff it has removed, because it got too big for its space. hope this helps

![]() Actually ... you're thinking of caulerpa and the dissolving is referred to as "sporulation" or "going sexual". Other types of macro algaes are also capable of this (Halimeda, for example .. believe it or not).
But Chaetomorpha is not one that will do this. This is why it is usually much more desirable as a fuge scrubber over other species. ![]()
