I'm guessing to build a stand with the 2 x 4's.

I hate to be the one to say it but if you need to save the $4 on building materials for your stand you might be in the wrong hobby.

Maybe it's not the money so much as that you can put up some cinder blocks with a piece of plywood a lot easier than building a stand with 2x4's...

it is and you save some money. i think this stand will be for my 70g FW tank. Not my SW tank (that will be set up in a year or so maybe sooner whence i get a job)
