Again, just because they can, doesn't mean they should. And the people that wrote those articles are not scientists, nor have been able to properly measure the effects of saltwater on brakish fish, since the environemts are quite different. Using them for quick algae removal may be ok, but put them back in thier brakish natural environment!

Like I said, its not as extreme as my example above, but could lead some people to take such measures.

Not at all flaming. You do what you wanna do with your live stock. Just another example: just because you can keep a siamese fighting fish(beta) in a glass of water doesnt mean that you should. Just because you think its best for the dog to keep him in a crate while you are at work doesnt mean you should. Again not flaming, just something to think about. I personally dont know the normal lifespan of mollies, but would be interesting to know and compare this between fresh and salt water mollies.

Bettas live in far worse conditions in nature than in small betta bowls Again, not saying I really condone it... but muddy puddles are thier natural habitat.

I dont want this to start into a battle, because its a sensitive issue for a lot of people, including me. We should be doing everything in our power to provide the best conditions for our animals. They do not have a voice, so we have to speak for them. I dont quite think its fair to say that people can do whatever they want with thier livestock. People are not allowed to do whatever they want with thier kids- then why with thier livestock?

In this hobby we are essentially raping nature to keep the stuff we do, I do not deny it. Which is why I think we should all be as responsible as possible with our pets.

Just curious. I've seen many threads get out of hand on this subject..... so lets try and keep it sane- k people?

I wasnt saying that people SHOULD do whatever they want with their live stock. I was more saying that people WILL do whatever they want with their livestock. Just look at how many yellow tangs, hippo tangs etc, are in tanks that most everyone knows are to small for them. Granted this is mostly do to ignorance and a lack of research, and sad to say but is also do to lfs misdirecting people. I was told once by a lfs employee that noticed me admiring a tank full hippo tangs,that one would be fine in my 20g reef. The problem is, is to many people make uninformed impulse buys, and feel that if things dont work out the way they hoped they will just get rid of the animal. This goes for dogs, cats, birds...everything.I personally know several dog owners that in my opinion should not have a dog. They put their dogs in crates because the dog acts out by chewing things when they arent home. They dont realize that its the fact that they arent home enough that causes the dog to act out by chewing things. Its like Dianna said, we as pet owners NEED to provide the best possible conditions for the animals we choose to take care of.
