Well basically it diverts flow from a closed loop (or a return I guess) two four different outlets allowing you to randomize the flow pattern. The drum inside the unit spins directing flow two different outlets.

so this would, for example, hook up to my return from my sump and deliver randomly directed flow throughout the tank?
