A Durso will quiet down the overflow.

However if you want a completely silent overflow, you need to do a Herbie's overflow.

If have been using this method for a couple of years or more and it works great as long as you use a gate valve and not a ball valve.

Thanks to everyone that answered. I am VERY pleased to say that our tank is now SUPER quiet. in fact, our cats electric water dish is now noisier than our overflow. Lol. A good nights sleep is in my future tonight! Thanks again.
