Hmmm, well it is a very nice place if you're from east or north of here. The mountains are in close proximity, they look very nice indeed, and you can get there like Tony says in short time. There is awesome hiking and camping and natural communing galore, lots of fresh tumbling streams etc... I've loved being here and enjoying all this, but...

Tonight and tomorrow night its going down to -28 C and the high for the next couple should get up to -22. Sure it's not Edmonton but it's too close. I've lived here for most of my life - I'm just ready for a change. When we come to the island for a holiday, it rips my heart out to leave. I actually had bitter tears last time. (Insert whiny violin music here...)

You have water all around, a rocky island with all my favourite foliage, rain that STARTS in the fall and greens up all winter long, maybe 2 days with snow a YEAR, temps that for the most part don't see the south side of zero, and humidity. Here, my sons are developing asthma. What the h@ll is THAT?!? I never had asthma... no wait, now I do have "irritated upper airways" or some damn thing, from the high and dry. One of my pals is keen on pointing out to anyone who listens that we have lower relative humidity than the Sahara. Fifteen percent just sounds wrong, and it is.

I guess the grass is always greener, you don't know what you've got til it's gone, etc etc etc. "You should never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then, you're a mile away and you've got their shoes."

Cheers!

Uhm Alan,
Rain that starts in the Fall?? Are you CRAZY???!! It rains here all throughout the seasons. Except it doesn't rain that much in the Summer and then we have water restrictions which means brown grass- not green.

True, the foliage is nice out here and the ocean... but I surely miss the SNOW! I wish we had true seasons here (like I hear Ontario does). Christmas is not Christmas without snow.

And we have so much tall buildings out our way, we miss out on many nice skies like Sask has.

But you know what? You're right: be happy where you are at.

Yeah, then of course there is that "I felt bad I had no shoes, and then I saw a man with no legs" thing....

Anyway, my brother and his wife retired on the island after taking an extended month long holiday out there, and finding some wonderful results with not only asthma, but arthritis, etc. They could afford it.

I am just plumping up the humidity in the house..... We were just talking about retiring in Warner........

I love Calgary and I never want to leave again.
I lived in the Bahamas in 98/99 and it was nice but it was sure nicer to come home!
If I have my way, I will be in Calgary till I am no longer
It's nice to have some seasons. Instead of 20 deg c being winter in the bahamas and 30 to 40 deg being summer.

Well one thing I learned about living in Prince George. When it is cold, it is a dry cold. You put on your jacket, long johns (I bought my long johns at a Superstore in Calgary years ago) etc, and you're warm. Here, when it's cold, it is damp and no jacket or long johns will keep you warm. It goes right to the bone.

Jonathan, you've lived in the Bahamas and prefer here??? wow.

Well it could have been the Jerk! that I was working for!
That was the only miserable part.
It was nice otherwise but I do know that people(I don't think anyone)
truly appreciates their place in this world till it changes.
I would like to go back but I do like it here as well.

It's quite a shock walking in a mall and being the only white person in the place  .
