They don't run cool. Burn your hand after a few min holding it.

Did not run them long enough to 100% test that, so unable to answer.

On my 16G nano, running that pump, the water goes to 92. You need some serious fans or a chiller to run that pump on a nano. It will raise a 60G tank 1 or 2 degrees.

16G tank with a 1200 GPH pump! Thats crazy.

I was thinking of two on the 135g that I am planning!

I had 3 of those poseidon pumps on my 230g, and we didn't find them to heat the water at all. Although I suspect it was because of the 300g+ water volume. They do run quite quiet though. For me those were good pumps.

Have you looking into pumps by Reeflo? They can be dialed back, and are pressure rated.

I would suggest reeflo. for the same price you can get a snapper pump that will put out 2700 GPH, and they are extremly quiet.

Its actually not that much flow. After headloss and whatnot its not very bad. The fish don't even seem to notice to tell you the truth.

If you are looking in the 1700-2400 GPH range, you may want to consider a Reeflo Snapper. More energy efficient than the Poisiden pumps and cooler, but are louder. You won't hear it if the pump is in the cabinet though. Plumbing is a pain though since it is a 2" inlet and 1.5" outlet.

Alternatively you can pick up something like a Iwaki or Mak 5 and do the fan mod on it. Haven't done this myself but the guys over at reef central seem to love it. I can't seem to find the link though at the moment...basically you remove the fan and fan shroud from the back of the pump and replace it with a much quieter CPU fan with a PVC shroud to direct the flow of air over the pump body.

I have a PS2 for my livingroom tank and it is dead silent. According to their website it does increase tank temperature 3-4 degrees but I've only noticed a 1 degree increase. I'm sure it would be even less in a 135 gallon.

I agree with Michika that you might want to look at a pressure rated pump (the PS2 & 3 are but the PS1 & 4 are not) so you can have better control over return flow.
