Also Jason should be able to give some good input here - he's got the L3s on his tank and he has seen the minis on other people's tanks.

30" deep and 30" tank. (72" long).

I'm just sort of afraid that I'll end up losing part of the actinics by having them blocked by the other reflectors (or vice versa). Since it seems you need about 3" clearance for each t5, and I'm thinking that for a 30" tall tank, I'd want to go with 4 t5's just to be sure that there's enough to make a difference..

My head hurts, I'm putting too much thought into this (That or there's a weather system a-comin').

I had the L3's on a 32" wide tank previously and had no issues fitting the VHO's in. I had 2 actinics at the back and 2 at the front.

I have mini's on my tank with 1 actinic in front and 1 in the back. However my tank is only 24" front to back. I would stick to the L3's, you should have enough room for two lights on each side, if you go with clip on reflectors the outside reflectors can be angled in towards the middle of the tank.

Here is a couple pictures of my setup.
