How quickly you need to change the DI resin is dependant on the TDS of your tap water. The lower the TDS, the longer between changes.

You could buy a TDS meter or ask your local city government. But probably the easiest way to tell is to ask a local reefer or an LFS that deals in SW.

They go from deep green to a lighter yellowy colour. It's in the instruction booklet.
