![]() I don't think it's essential to have it tumbling. What you do want to avoid is the chaeto becoming clogged with crap like a mechanical filter. I have a hydor rotating water thingy pointed at the chaeto in my sump which keeps it rocking a bit and it's doing just dandy.

![]() I use a round piece of glass, and two small locklines pointed at the Cheato. The lines direct flow to keep the ball spinning and tumbling. The glass sits under the ball, like a little dance floor, and it doesn't get hung up on it.
