Yes, they do feed willingly, and probably depend more on feeding than light since they are in deeper water, but perhaps they have a generally slower metabolism. This is not a well-studied species. In any case, they are not only from Australia, but their range is throughout the Philippines, Indonesia, and Southeast Asia. From everything I have heard, they are really easy to keep alive. I have never kept one myself.

Thanks for posting the link and added information Marie. I didn't think that they were that widespread geographically. According to my Australian supplier they were only available there. Great information.

I thought I'd give them a try. I picked up a 4 polyp frag locally @ $25. per polyp....ouch. I have them midway in my tank so I'll see how they do.
