Default coral question

They guy i got the tank off of said it was a leather coral.
Ive had it a month now and the coral seemed to be doing well, always fully out and extended. In the last two days its been breaking small branches and im finding them all over the tank. Is it doing this because of bad water conditions or a way of reproducing?
thx

could be a Kenia Tree coral. If it is that is a way of reproducing

what he said Kenyan and other types of leathers often drop branches, specifically Kenyan though. Pics would probably confirm the diagnosis
