i switched from brown,suger sized sand to white suger sized rinsed for like 2 hours to 4 days for tank to clear.has ben up a runnin for 3 months with white sand and i still cant touch the stuff.siffted 1 6 inch net full and i tought i was going to kill everything.tank was totaly white

back to constructive comments, I use my turkey baster to baste the rocks about twice a week, and once a month I do a complete blowing of the tank with a maxijet 1200. I love MJ's, they're so handy

anyone else know why my live sand is so dusty, even with the slightest touch it produces a mini sand storm

Its just really light stuff. After awhile it will get coated with biofilm (bacteria) and be a bit more weighty. For the most part sugar sand is just like that though, its pretty fine grained and doesn't have a lot of weight to it.

Luckily you don't have Sand shifter Goby.. I am having major issue with the goby when I use Sand on my system. It create dust after dust all around the tank. End up take apart the tank and change all the sand to a very coarse time and no more dust, even the Goby digging on it all the time.
