Default Lights for my nano

I think I will set up a 5g nano on my desk at work. I have the tank and filter I just need a heater and lights. I thought I saw a thread about some good results with desk lamps but now I can't seem to find it. If a desk lamp is a good way to go could someone please tell me what to buy.

Thanks

you have some options, some peopl have put a MH light into a desk lamp or you can try one of those 25watt CF coralife screw in bulb, depends on what you want to grow
theres also the coralife 50/50 mini power compact tha would be something to consier

I was going to look at doing something with LED's. But then I was planning on using this as a tank...

Hey Mike

http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/s...t_ID=pc-al0909

Thats the light I use on my 8gallon ex-nano, currently mantis tank. Purchased from Golds for $35-40... can't remember.

They work pretty well, only complaint is that it gets pretty hot, so its best to have legs so its up a bit from the water, so it doesn't mess with the tank temperature.

I would have used a desk lamp and put a different bulb in it, except I was short on room, and wanted something just on the top.

I've used the 10W and 20W Coralife 50/50 screw-ins. They aren't very bright, but they'll do for numerous low-light softies and LPS. The colour is pretty good, too.

I'm switching over to Philips Marathon Daylight bulbs, though. They're cheaper, brighter, and I've had good success in my planted tank and in my mantis nano tank. The nano tank doesn't have corals in it, but the coraline grows well. I'm putting four of the 27W Daylight bulbs over a 16 gallon display (20" x 15" x 13" H). They look very bright, and I figure my mushrooms and other corals will do well.

RIO is coming out with a new LED product soon. Should be interesting to see how that turns out.

I would like to find some sort of desk lamp to use. I can see myself going from a 5g to a 10g in the future so I don't want to buy something that will only fit on the top of a 5g. Is there any suitable desk lamps that run PC's?
