This is how I'm picturing things. Water goes through the overflow and into my sump, my skimmer sits in the sump, water is then pumped out of the sump back into the tank. Is this correct? Also, what specs should I look for when considering a pump?

Look at what flow rate you want or your overflow/plumbing can handle. Remember to use the gph minus head loss (loss of flow due to the height the water must be pumped up to get back into your tank).

You also have to decide whether to go with in-sump return pump (like a Mag or Quiet One) or an external pump (Mak4, Sequence, etc.)
