Mantis Shrimp with other fish
I have recently acquired a mantis shrimp, and Im trying to decide if I should try to keep him by himself, or with someone else. Currently he is in a 8gallon, but I have a 48gallon and a 50gallon that he could go into.
I need to know if a Mantis shrimp would be able to live in a 50gallon with my Undulated trigger. Pretty much, if I can put him in a tank with other fish, what would be the best fish to keep with him, if I can't keep him with my trigger? |

It depends what kind of mantis you've got. Some get big, some stay small, some spear fish, and some smash inverts. The trigger would probably eat the mantis, though.
Here's a good site: http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthrop...raca/royslist/ I have a G. smithii in a 6 gallon display tank with a three-stripe damsel. They're getting upgraded to a 13 gallon display tank pretty soon. ________ Sc replays Last edited by Flusher; 04-21-2011 at 04:04 PM. |

I have a Gonodactylus chiragra
Im guessing that the whole smashing thing won't fly very well with most "curious" or aggressive fish, as someone will end up bottoms up. If anyone has any success with keeping a Gonodactylus chiragra with any fish, please let me know! |

At 10cm, it might be a bit dangerous to a fish that gets too close. If the trigger is big enough, it should be ok, but the mantis might be too nervous to come out of it's lair to get food or be seen by you.

Did you get your G. chiragra from Rudy? He had a couple up for grabs recently, and I was tempted. I have no room for one, though...
RC.com has a whole mantis shrimp forum. Try looking here for your answer: http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumd...?s=&forumid=37 You'll probably find that it depends on your individual mantis if it'll be okay with fish. ________ DC MEDICAL MARIJUANA Last edited by Flusher; 04-21-2011 at 04:04 PM. |
