Neil,

I am not sure I understand your question. Here is my input on what I think you are asking:Be carefull of running the mag too close to the bottom as sand will prematurely wear out your pump. Also if you build too much structure in front of the pump, it will inhibit it from sucking up the nasties.

Hey Neil-mine has a very short piece of clear pipe and I just hide the pump. You get used to the way it looks in the tank.....so it's up to you, personally I wouldn't want to lose any flow.
