I currently have 3 emeralds in my tank. I've always had at least 1 emerald crab in my tank at all times and I've never had a problem. Generally, whenever I get a new coral in my tank, my hermits, various other cleanup crew, and blue linkia all converge on it to feed on the new algaes that came on the new coral's base. So I think that's all that is happening to your new coral.

Post Emerald

I find if you don't have enough algae to keep him happy, hand feed him some morsels of food ie: shrimp meat, squid...

then there to full to care about your corals.
