cyano

I have been told that cerith and black turbo snails will eat the cyano..just so you know.
I have a tank that is set up for about a month and a half and I am having the same problems.
I am also getting a large crust of crap(not sure what it is) on top of the sand bed.
I have been just sucking it up and trying to see if that works.
It looks like crap and I don't know what else to do.
Once again, outsmarted by a micro-organism.
