Default Localized RTN?

Anyone ever had this? I've lost about 3 SPS pieces so far, one bali frag and two frags from fellow reefers. I've had all 3 for several months. I did have to switch out my Tunze 6060 to a Hagen 802 about a month ago after some stupidity on my part involving an integral part of the tunze and a sink drain. Anyway the part is on order and hopefully will be here soon. Could the reduction in flow be part of the problem? Seems strange as this is happening 4 weeks from the switch.

All water parameters are in order.

TIA,
Christy

Christy I am having a real stuggle lately with my SPS as well but I am certain it is because of heat issues. I really really have to get a chiller particularly for my acrylic tank. Even with fans running full blast and looking really ghetto I am still having issues and loosing a few frags and colonies that had been doing well.
With that said flow can make a difference over time and if everything else is unchanged I would chalk it up to flow.

Well the temp has gone up a slight bit, normally the tank runs at about 80-81, with the warmer weather its hit 82.5. Really not a huge deal as I've had my tank higher before without problems (although without these particular frags as well). I guess I'll have to crank up the chiller and keep it at a more constant temp. As for the flow, that part can't come fast enough (its part of the bracket that holds the tunze in place ).

Ha, I remember when I was worried about two 6060s being too much flow, now I'm lost without them

Magnesium is at 1440. I do a 15g water change every week. Now that I think of it, I did switch to seachem salt, I wonder if that could be the problem. I'm at the bottom of the pail.

i had major base recession happening to most of my corals a couple of months back . i'm not sure if it was due to low temp as the tank was set to 72f-76f, tank temp is at 79 now and every corals nicely recovering. one coral puzzles me though which is my red table. since i've had the coral it has receeded every year right around jan-march. also got 1 bali acro that completely bleached in 2 days. =o(

Christy,

Can't find the RC thread that discusses Seachem salt's really high level of boron. Randy was adament that such high levels in a reef are not so good. Did, however, find an article on Boron in a Reef Tank. While the article is all about boron and what it does chemically in the home reef, Randy does discuss Seachem salt. Long read, but might explain a few things about what might be going on with your new frags...

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/dec2002/chem.htm

BTW, there are two Seachem salts on the market now, one of which has just started being shipped. Here's Seachem's site for more information on their two salts...

Thanks for the info Bev,

Sheesh if it isn't one thing its another. The store I got the salt from was out of IO and all they had was Kent (which was sort of sketchy at the time) and the Seachem stuff. I guess I'll be going back to Kent if they don't have any IO in.

This is strange. I have 3 really nice SPS RTN 100% about 3 weeks ago. both my birds nests (pink and yellow/green) and one of Jesse's acro frags (my fav)
they were no were near each other. didn't find the cause
All is good now
