Nice to see you've gone BB

One good thing about BB tanks is that you can siphon out the crud from the bottom. In our three BB tanks (37g, 67g, 120g) we leave room on the sides and around the back so we can baste the crud from under the rock and siphon that stuff out too. You might want to consider reaquascaping to be able to get the crud out easier.

Good looking start, though

To show you how much room we usually leave around our rock, here's a pic of our 67g from last summer...

Thanks alot!

Beverly- I realised after I bought most of the rock that I wanted to go BB (this past september). It is a real trick trying to get the crud out. I used to use a normal aquarium siphon, now I just use a 1/2" tubing, which makes it a bit easier to get underneath the rocks and around them a bit. The tank hasn't been siphoned in...coming up 3 weeks... Thanks for the pic and the idea, its definately worth looking in to as when I am able to do a really good clean, its very time consuming and SLOW.

Noj,

You're welcome

After three weeks, most of the crud has already broken down into nitrate and phosphate. We siphon out our tanks weekly to keep nutrient levels to a minimum. Having non-invasive macroalgae in the tanks help with nutrient levels as well.

Here is our (cough) very long page on how we maintain our three tanks. Lots of pics, probably waaaaaay too many words.....
