![]() I agree with not buying it... but at the same time, I agree with buying it, haha.... I mean, save an animal if we can, right? Yes, you send the wrong message... but, not if we speak up, key word is WE. As we all know that one person talking to them has little or no effect. This has been brought up a few times, I think once by myself... it's really just .... disgusting the way they keep SW livestock IMO.

![]() There is a store in my area, with such revolting SW tanks. I can't even begin to explain it. Dead / decomposing anenomes floating in the tanks where just some of the things I saw before I disgustedly walked out vowing never to return.

![]() I guess that is why there is a moorish idol at a shop in dispair (and without at least one eye), because we made a decision not to buy it (we dont always know the curcumstance under which these animals came to be where they are or what got them into that condition).
I have seen fish in bad shape at every store I have ever been too. You never know if the problem was stress from shipping or other things but I have not been in a store in Calgary that doesnt try to provide a decent environment for the fish. You can argue over wether a bunch of small tanks with few fish in them are better than large tanks with more fish? I really dont think petcetera is that different than any other store, except that they probably dont have as knowledgeable staff (for sales) so you might be on your own as far as researching compatibility and building a relationship with someone that knows your system. It is a real conundrum wether not buying a strugling animal (or a known bad type) says to a store not to bring that kind in anymore or wether we are better off buying the animal a better home and chance? I have always considered my tanks to pet fish hotels and the better the service and quality of conditions, the longer they stay. I wont to provide a place that they can as close to as happy as they would be in the ocean (even though a tank will always be a far cry). No arguments, just some thoughts. Have a great day Eric |

![]() I filled out the comment card.
IMO they charge too much for there fish, even though they're two for one who would pay $40 for a clownfish, do the math and any dummy can figure out that they aren't getting a deal at all. Thats why there fish don't sell, and eventually perish in their poor living conditions.

![]() Petcetera 136 (SE, on 130ave) should never have set up saltwater tanks in that store.
Petcetera 103 (Macleod and 99th) has 2 managers personally trying to make a difference, but with lack of funding coming in for improvements, doesn't help. A new skimmer will be set up asap, and the UV sterilzers are supposed to be getting looked at. As for the prices, some are not bad... and they have 3 for the price of 1 sales, and that is decent. If you catch a fish they day it arrives, they are healthy as can be.. If you buy a fish that has been ina petcetera for a couple weeks, its gotta be sturdy than a tank! The hardest part is trying to find staff that will work for near mininum wage, and try to educate them on something that needs experience to understand. Hence Petland not carrying saltwater fish, imo. As for the fish they get, when the order comes in, headoffice makes the final decisions, and will send what they want, not what the stores wants. So buying that tang could be a good idea, as it may not get replaced... My opinions |
