Default Auriga Butterflyfish and Yellow Tang

Hi Guys,

I picked up Auriga Butterflyfish and my Yellow Tang is fighting with him. Do Butterfly's and Tangs not get along? Should I Let them fight it out? I have pulled the Butterfly out of that tank for now and I am just thinking of what to do. I was thinking of pulling both out and moving the rocks out and then adding them back in to see if that helps. I had a Problem like that before with a Wrasse and that solved it.

Any input you have would help.

Thanks,

they're just working out the pecking order. try mixing up the aquascape to change any territory the tang might have..it also helps to introduce a new fish after you've fed the current fish or as you're feeding, so there are other things to occupy the bully

I had the same prroblem with my Threadfin butterfly, and my Kleins butterfly. THe yellow and Scopas has to let them know who was boss. All i did was rearrange the rock work. it worked for me. But if you can take out the yellow and then add the butterfly it will work. But it may not.

But my Butterflies were bigger then my Yellow and
Scopas tang too which helps alot

good luck....

Same probs with Dottyback and Wrasse. Agree with above. I did that and what else was recommended to me after rearanging is to "black-out" the tank for a day or two. ie. put a blanket around it to coax them into a slumber. It worked for me. If that doesn't work, maybe invest in one of those temporary tank dividers? Is it fighting or more bullying? good luck.

It looks like it worked, The seem to be friends now.

Thanks for you help.

A few more questions, Can you have more then one Butterflyfish in the same tank? Can it be the same kind or different? If you can have more then one what size of groups? Do you have to add them in all at the same time? I don't know anyone that has more then one in a tank but it I think it would look real cool to have a few of them in my FOWLR tank.

Thanks,
