Algae, or what is it?

Hi Guys,

I am cycling my 30G tank for one week. Last Sunday I added several live rocks to it to make this process faster. Apparently something start to grow on those rocks. Looks like green bubbles. In addition to that, rocks and a coral sand start covering with green-brown substance. Not too much so far but already a visible amount. Is it normal?

If not how to get reed of it?

You did it right, but you have to remove the ?### portion of the tag (everything after the .jpg) to have the URL recognized for your images.
You have some grape caluerpa (caluerpa racemosa) in pics one and two. Conventional wisdom is not that wise for a display tank, but a bit tricky to get rid of.

Pics are too small for the green-brown, but a guess says diatoms, which will cycle out.

it looks like grape caleurpa. tangs will eat them readily

Yeh, I thought about Tangs, but 30G is too small for them, besides the tanks is only 1 week old and ammonia still at 0.5 ppm

Thanks Matt, I guess anyhow I need to wait untill the tank cycle completely. Maybe I can remove some part of caluerpa physically.

This is normal on a new tank and probably so for the next month or so.. Once it's cycled and ammonia is 0 I would add in your clean up crew with some astrias margarites and ceriths along with some hermits and if you reaaly want to get a good handle on it faster then a sea hare would take care of that but once its all gone trade your sea hare back into the LFS or sell it here as they wont survive without the algea.
