All my CUC are accounted for (I only have 6 hermits) Also the hermit crab’s physiognomy is different. This looks like a shrimp. I would even say more like a mantis because the head is smaller relative to the body. It’s also way bigger than my little pistol shrimp, or any of the hermits for that matter. I’m just amazed it has remained hidden for 3.5 years through two tanks?

I'm more amazed that something may have killed it!

Well, the green spotted puffers can crunch through some shells like a three year-old does Cheerios. The body was mostly inside the powerhead by the time I found it so maybe they couldn’t reach it.

Ah yes, your puffers!
Presuming it was them, sad but good! The puffers need to crunch on shells to grind their "tooth" down or it can become detrimental for them. Ask me how I know, cuz I researched the puffers after my visit to your place!
