The controller that comes with the WP40's has a ELSE mode on it for somewhat random waves, but from what I've read it isn't actually random but a set ramp up/down and if you plug in/power 2 at the same time they will follow almost the same random pattern, which may or may not be issue depending on what you're trying to accomplish. If you have a apex controller you can use 2 variable speed ports with 2 modified Reef Angel cable and have completely different profiles for how the pumps are run to your own desire

I use the controller that comes with it, it has multiple different settings and I am happy with it. I can't comment on how much better it would be with a separate controller.
My tank is a mix of LPS and a few softies.

I am also looking into purchasing a wp40 for my 180. a fellow reefer told me to stay clear b/c they are not csa approved.
Nor sure if that's a big deal tho????

They are CSA approved. No worries there. Hopefully this will result in a price war with Vortech.
