![]() I just got my Marineland 150DD tank(36X36X27), and I am planning to build my own stand.
just wondering if 2X4 gonna be enough for the build? or I should use 2X6 for the top frame? thanks..

![]() I used 2x6, but my width is 4' compared to your 3
4'x2'x2' If you have the room inside for the extra 2" I would use 2x6 |

![]() 2x4 is plenty if built properly.
Peter, you've seen my stand. It's a rock. It'll hold ur 150dd no problem. |

![]() +1 I would feel completely safe building that stand out of 2x4, as long as its done properly.
I went with 2x6 for my top and bottom frame, but only because the tank is 55" long and I wanted to avoid a center brace for better sump access. |

![]() If you actually figured out the structural calculations on everything you would find 2x4 design way way way more then enough to support your tank. If built correctly.
Using 2x6 would be solely for peace of mind, look up on google on a somewhat rough design on how others have built there stands and follow suit. Don't be cheap on screws! |

![]() use 2x4 on 16 " centers-the same way a house is built(a house from the 50s-70s,before energy conservation)

![]() DIY Stand
I am thinking using this build plan. Was thinking about using some joinery and minimize the usage of screws, but not sure if I can get it right or not.

![]() That's the plan I've used to build a few stands. They are rock solid. You can forgo the inside screw strips if you pocket screw, but I like the idea of leaving them in. Rocketengineer also has a formula there somewhere for sizing your top framing for tank sizes and spans.
