The tube doesn't bend itself and the pieces don't weld themselves either, there is some work involved in making things like this.

How does it sit on the top of the tank?
1) Is it metal on glass or is there a cushion in between them. I guess you could attach the soft side of velcro or some other padding afterwards to the inside if there is nothing. 2) Is their a fastener that prevents the light from moving back and forth if you bump it. To get an idea of what I am talking about, you can look at the maxspect mounting rail for comparison. They have plastic screws that really fasten it to the top of your tank so once it's in place it's not moving.

1) There are rubber feet supplied so it is not sitting directly on the glass 2) Remember this is a custom system. Built to your exact tank length. There should be no room for movement as it is cut and bent for your tank length whereas the Maxspect is one mass produced product to fit all tank sizes.

Exactly. That's ridiculous. How do these work with basketballs though? I had a bit of an incident this weekend...

I for one love the idea. The sliding clips or brackets could work as well but keep in mind powdercoated or painted that would surely wear overtime.
Also our welding shop powder coats and paints our products and honestly I see more longevity out of the paint then the powder coat. Also if I'm not mistaken its a marine grade paint correct Greg? Not spraypaint per se but done with an air sprayer, and what 2-3 coats I think you told me once

i def like it but heres an idea ..... why not make the middle an insert that ways you could take the hanger with you on an upgrade or change the overall length by having different size inserts available. also i would have the sides as inserts as well so the height can be adjusted, maybe 2-4" inserts could be available to change heights.
rubber padding underneath would be a nice touch as well on the feet so it doesnt scratch trim or glass.
