![]() They grow into each other if the same specie. I once broke a piece of a blue tip acropora that fell on the main colonie and left it there upside down. It merged into the colonie and started to grow a new branche from it, and even though it was upside down, it started to grow a new branch going toward the light in opposite direction of the original branch, so it reversed its direction of growth. Now in that spot I have a blue spot around the merge and a new branch growing. The original blue tip of that branch is now fully merged with the main colonie.
