You use a Measuring Cup. 1 cup is a standard unit of measure. they make measuring cups in 1/4,1/3, 1/2, 1 cup measurements.

Ok it's good to know I'm not the only one who temporarily thought about gouging out my eyes with an algae scraper after reading that.
