![]() If you have detectable nitrate or an algae problem then its pretty safe to assume you need a larger skimmer. Specs by the manufactorer are more of a guideline than a rule. If you stock very light, feed little and do regular water changes you may be able to get away with running an undersized skimmer. In general its less costly in the long run to buy a good skimmer rated for more than your system volume.
