I removed the clown tang and he is now in my sump (Don't worry, it's 90g of room in the area he's in). If I move some rock and let the purple tang establish himself a bit, can I add the clown tang later?
Clown tangs are short lived notorious bullies.
You are on the right track. Move the rock around and return the clown to his tank in the evening when the lights are off. He will be aware of the new tang but will be kept busy finding a place for the night.
In the morning feed a lot more often and at different ends of the tank so there is no fights over food. They may adjust over a few days but if the purple starts hiding I would return the clown to the lfs
Good Luck
