Default Euro-Reef RS-100 skimmer question

Hey guys, can you help me out? I'm trying to put together and understand my new Euro-Reef RS-100 protein skimmer. The opening of the outlet (water return) pipe (which is 5 3/4" long) when fitted inside the water return tee, is only 1/2" off the ground. It says that I should trim or adjust the position of the outlet pipe so that the bottom where the water exits is above the water level. It also says the ideal water level in the sump for optimal skimmer performance is between six and eight inches. So. They're saying the bottom of the outlet pipe should be atleast 6" high? Should I just leave the elbow & outlet water pipe off and let the water come out of the water return tee? The opening of the tee is 7 1/2" off the ground, so I'll have 1 1/2" clearance if the water level in my sump is 6". Also, the foam level adjustment pipe comes up to exactly the top of the collecting cup lid. In the manual (diagram) it only rises halfway up the collecting cup. Should I trim it down, or leave it as is? Thanks.

As far as I remember, once you put the skimmer together (if it's apart), then all you have to do is raise or lower that vertical pipe. It will probably take a few tries, but after its broken in, you can raise it to make wetter skimmate or lower it to make thicker skimmate. I usually set it wet & then after a while, lower it a bit & see how well it skims.

It can't be raised or lowered, you can only twist it.

Just make sure the exiting branch of the T is above the water level and you should be fine, leave the adjoining 90 degree and its attached length of PVC.

As far as adjusting the skimmer, they've changed the RS models to include a twist/lock standpipe vs the original riser tube. Just twist the tube to raise the water level in the skimmer.

Right it's a twist/lock standpipe. I guess the height of this pipe doesn't matter then! OK I will do that, I will let the water exit the T. Thank you.
