I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit edition, I was/am a beta tester. I have it on my Notebook/Desktop Replacement
acer 9810. Most things provided by Acer do not work you have to use microsofts version/program. Most XP drivers work for the most part for vista (for my bluetooth/infrared etc).
You need the The Ultimate version or at least the business version if you want to run any virtual machines. Driver support is per usual for a new OS. It has more support for my notebook than Linux or Freebsd/OpenBSD right now. Has some handy dandy little addons that are nice but can be emulated with third party utilities with XP. The DRM/Trusted computer add on stuff makes me leary of using it mainstay for awhile. The Sidebar is not worth it the third party programs are far superior. I still use Vista with Bblean (a version of blackbox for windows) Instead of the default explorer (less memory usage etc). On the whole it looks like microsoft took years to implement features already found (and far superior) in third party programs.
My Advice unless you get it cheap or ahem..free don't bother yet.

i really like vista, I think it's a great OS so far. I look forward to seeing some DX10 graphics in games soon.

That said, if you have a Dell computer, beware!!!! I had to completely reformat and partition my harddrive as well as flash the bios. Apparently there is no way around this. I had no choice as I already started the install and it corrupted my XP media that Dell hadn't sent me a disk for.

After all is said and done, I think it was worth the hassle.

edit for sp.

I just recently bought a new labtop, If anyone is looking at getting a new labtop my parents were down in orlando, and went to a walmart they have the best prices I have seen. Anyway about Vista, I am really liking it, It is alot like the Mac OS which I have always liked. Since my computer came with Vista loaded I have had no problems would recommend it.

I have Vista Home Premium and so far I like it. A few of my games don't work but all-in-all I like it. Nevertheless, I'd consider waiting 6 months. My computer blew a hard drive and a graphics card all on the same day so I thought I'd give Vista a whirl.

There are some compatibility issues with drivers and software. Comparing user experience from the upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP, it's a bigger more pleasant change. The Ultimate Edition has some nice features for system backup and encryption. I also like the new implementation of Windows Media Center; I have an Xbox 360 hooked up as a Media Center Extender and it was much easier to connect to this time around and stream live TV. It's no wonder Microsoft is owning Sony in the consoles wars (at the moment - next to Nintendo of course).

I installed Vista Home Basic Upgrade on my Dell Inspiron 1300 notebook last night. It took a few hours, considering I had to download a bunch of dell drivers prior to installing, then updating after installation for compatability. I had no erros during install, so that was nice.. it was relatively smooth upgrade. I don't have much for apps on my PC but the only compatability issue I had was with Norton Internet Security 2007.. they directed me to a website to download a driver to make it compatable... after dumping and re-installing, everything is working fine.

As for Vista itself.. I don't have the full vista experience, but I don't mind it so far. It's a mac rip-off for sure, but that doesn't bother me like it does for some. The apperance is nice and sleek. Microsoft made Vista very personalizable (is that a word?) which is good because you get the most out of your OS.

Just my two cents so far.... seems pretty decent.
