Anyone using Vista?

Anyone make the changeover to Windows Vista? What are your impressions? Any compatability issues?

IMO, it's going to be just like when xp came out, horrible driver support. There are still some people who don't have sound card drivers. I'm planning on waiting till sometime around the summer when they have released SP1 for it. There really isn't a compelling reason to upgrade to it at this point, they eye candy is a bit nicer, but unless you've got a brand new computer with 1gb+ of ram and a high end Intel or AMD cpu, it's going to run like crap if you try to run it with all the eye candy turned on.

Anyone planning on upgrading to it needs to make sure they can find drivers for their video card, sound card, printers, scanners, the extra software that lets you use the extra buttons on your mouse and keyboard, etc.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit edition, I was/am a beta tester. I have it on my Notebook/Desktop Replacement
acer 9810. Most things provided by Acer do not work you have to use microsofts version/program. Most XP drivers work for the most part for vista (for my bluetooth/infrared etc).
You need the The Ultimate version or at least the business version if you want to run any virtual machines. Driver support is per usual for a new OS. It has more support for my notebook than Linux or Freebsd/OpenBSD right now. Has some handy dandy little addons that are nice but can be emulated with third party utilities with XP. The DRM/Trusted computer add on stuff makes me leary of using it mainstay for awhile. The Sidebar is not worth it the third party programs are far superior. I still use Vista with Bblean (a version of blackbox for windows) Instead of the default explorer (less memory usage etc). On the whole it looks like microsoft took years to implement features already found (and far superior) in third party programs.
My Advice unless you get it cheap or ahem..free don't bother yet.

i really like vista, I think it's a great OS so far. I look forward to seeing some DX10 graphics in games soon.

That said, if you have a Dell computer, beware!!!! I had to completely reformat and partition my harddrive as well as flash the bios. Apparently there is no way around this. I had no choice as I already started the install and it corrupted my XP media that Dell hadn't sent me a disk for.

After all is said and done, I think it was worth the hassle.

edit for sp.

I just recently bought a new labtop, If anyone is looking at getting a new labtop my parents were down in orlando, and went to a walmart they have the best prices I have seen. Anyway about Vista, I am really liking it, It is alot like the Mac OS which I have always liked. Since my computer came with Vista loaded I have had no problems would recommend it.

I have Vista Home Premium and so far I like it. A few of my games don't work but all-in-all I like it. Nevertheless, I'd consider waiting 6 months. My computer blew a hard drive and a graphics card all on the same day so I thought I'd give Vista a whirl.

There are some compatibility issues with drivers and software. Comparing user experience from the upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP, it's a bigger more pleasant change. The Ultimate Edition has some nice features for system backup and encryption. I also like the new implementation of Windows Media Center; I have an Xbox 360 hooked up as a Media Center Extender and it was much easier to connect to this time around and stream live TV. It's no wonder Microsoft is owning Sony in the consoles wars (at the moment - next to Nintendo of course).
