Salifert is the industry standard for test kits with most reefers I believe.

Ammonia & Nitrite should always be at undetectable levels. For sps, nitrate is more of an issue, while LPS & softies can stand a slightly higher level of nitrate. pH should be around 8.2-8.4 range usually.

In a smaller tank, all these parameters will be harder to achieve (in general) because of the lower volume for dilution & stability.
