I was at AI and noticed they had the large sqare holding tanks made by Hagen and was thinking the same about a salt pond.I think if you built it so it was high enough up from ground level,run-off wouldn't be a problem,and as long as you checked the salinity often,rain would be ok?
The only thing about being outside and our climate,you might want to think about a cooler salt water enviroment,something like you would find in the Atlantic ocean.You would also have to dig it deep and have a good strong airator(sp?).Sounds like a nice project though.
