Do you have some online servers in your 'Sources config' in Yast? I've never had a problem installing software from outside sources.. My laptop is Suse 9.3 Pro, I have everything (and more) I had with WindowsXp. I even use Crossover Office for some applications I need from Windows...

Suse personal sux, you are missing tons of libraries and such, if you ever wish to install anything not included in the personal edition, expect to spend days getting all the libraries installed.
