Brittle Star question

I get lots of these guys still living when I replace my sump socks every 2-3 days. If living, i usually throw them back in the aquarium. they are small - maybe the size of a toonie with legs extended. Are brown in colour. Are they beneficial to the aquarium at this size? Thanks.
