Not for inverts IMO. I do it for 4 hours so that I do not risk problems with sensitive inverts.
I assume the reefer has placed the plastic bag to float in the tank or sump to equalize the temperature and than dripped from the main or sump to equalize salinity in which case the temperature will be steady and there will be no ammonia buidup.
