Acclimatizing a few things - questions
 

Ok so Ive got some of my CUC here.

Got a couple peppermint shrimp, 4 blue legged hermits, 2 nassarius snails and two brittle stars.

Im just wondering how long I should drip acclimate? So far its been about 45 mins. I heard crabs and shrimp need like 1.5 hrs though but I gotta go for dinner soon. Just wondering what you guys think?

As long as you can. Put a little more water in a little quick and give it 15 minutes and you should be ok.
Longer is always much better.

We try to acclimate our shrimp for at least 1.5 hours with the drip method. Fish can be a little faster.

Patience is a virtue, especially if you want living livestock.

Not true. You can acclimate for too long as ammonia will build up with no where to go and temperature can slowly drop. Anything over 1 - 2 hrs is not necessary IME.

Not for inverts IMO. I do it for 4 hours so that I do not risk problems with sensitive inverts.
I assume the reefer has placed the plastic bag to float in the tank or sump to equalize the temperature and than dripped from the main or sump to equalize salinity in which case the temperature will be steady and there will be no ammonia buidup.

Only on rare occasions do I drip for longer than 1 hour. Inverts usually get the 1 hour treatment, and fish 30-45 minutes. Of course I watch them all and make sure they are doing well.

agree with ya on that one longer you are stressing out that live stock. i never float the bag i start dripping right away. at a drip every .5 of a second then i add a about 1-2 turkey baster full to the bag every 15 mins

The only thing I acclimate are shrimp. Everything else including crabs get the temp equalized, then I remove from the bag and place in the tank

Bingo. thats wat i do. i dont think i've ever lost livestock due to poor acclimatisation... dont think thats a word w/e haha... anyway longer than an hour seems a bit excessive

IMHO - On a four hour drip the temp in the acclimation bucket will surely drop lower than than the tank temp.
