Default Any ideas what this is ?

I have had this piece of live rock for about 4 years and this < whatever it is > has slowly grown out of it ... it has not been harmfull that I know of and has not reproduced ... any clue as to what it is ? ... it is about 2 inches across the top

Steve I think it's some type of polyp. I have them as well, although not that large. They don't seem to be a problem, as I have a few right next to some hitchhiker zoanthids and neither looks worse for the wear.

Just generic borwn polyp or button polyp.

They're nice, I like 'em. I think all the ones that I have were voluntary (e.g. hitchhikers). I have a colony that are green even (started off as a nub on a rock).

They don't really do any damage but they do spread quickly if you feed them. So, if you'd like more, try target feeding it some mysis.

Thanks Quinn abd Tony ... it did seem harmless enough ... target feeding ? ... hmmm ... that might be doable

I've got one that looks exaclty like that one on my LR. Been there forever.
