Any ideas what this is ?
 
I have had this piece of live rock for about 4 years and this < whatever it is > has slowly grown out of it ... it has not been harmfull that I know of and has not reproduced ... any clue as to what it is ? ... it is about 2 inches across the top

Steve I think it's some type of polyp. I have them as well, although not that large. They don't seem to be a problem, as I have a few right next to some hitchhiker zoanthids and neither looks worse for the wear.

Just generic borwn polyp or button polyp.

They're nice, I like 'em. I think all the ones that I have were voluntary (e.g. hitchhikers). I have a colony that are green even (started off as a nub on a rock).

They don't really do any damage but they do spread quickly if you feed them. So, if you'd like more, try target feeding it some mysis. :biggrin:

I've got one that looks exaclty like that one on my LR. Been there forever. :rolleyes:
