I recently placed a small piece of lr with a small xenia on it into my tank. There was some spongy/stick stuff on it but not much. I just moved the piece of rock and as I pulled it away there was a sticky substance holding it in place (slightly).
It's a pink, spongy, sticky substance. Any idea what that is? |

"It's a pink, spongy, sticky substance" Maybe it's a sponge? |

If sponge coral is actually like bubble gum then I guess that's what it is. When I pulled the rocks apart it was just like picking up a shoe that's been in warm sticky bubble gum.
I couldn't find much about them on the net except for one site that said they compete with other corals for space. Could it inhibit my xenia from spreading? |

Unlikely. Xenia spreads like a mofo. :-)
