ID - a little sticky-icky

I recently placed a small piece of lr with a small xenia on it into my tank. There was some spongy/stick stuff on it but not much. I just moved the piece of rock and as I pulled it away there was a sticky substance holding it in place (slightly).

It's a pink, spongy, sticky substance. Any idea what that is?

Bubble gum??

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have no idea what it is

Maybe it's a sponge?

If sponge coral is actually like bubble gum then I guess that's what it is. When I pulled the rocks apart it was just like picking up a shoe that's been in warm sticky bubble gum.

I couldn't find much about them on the net except for one site that said they compete with other corals for space. Could it inhibit my xenia from spreading?

Unlikely. Xenia spreads like a mofo. :-)
