Filter Media

I've been using BigAl's cut-off the big roll mechanical filter media for a few years. I believe it is the same material as used in furniture stuffing. Can't stand cleaning reuseable media so I replace it once a week.
Just wondering if anyone has found other sources or material which is safe. I'm assuming the stuff I'm using now is safe
