Halide Ballast question - need help asap!!!

i have a 28g Nano cube HQI, my lights went out last week, finally got a replacement bulb for it, put it in and now still no light/spark up. im suspecting it is the ballast/gear box, but no one stocks/carries/or can get a new ballast, the only way i have found to get it, is by contacting JBJ itself and ordering one thru them, but that can take upto 6 weeks, i have coral and mushrooms in the tank, no fish. please let me know if anyone has any ideas on how to fix/troubleshoot the problem and if it may be something i can repair myself ! thanks!!!
