Anyone know where to rent things such as a lux meter and devices such as that.

This whole Icecap thingy going on on RC has me wanting to settle this once and for all. In the new year I want to set up my 33 with three different ballasts. Icecap, LOA and a VHO from Albrite. I cna't find anywhere that someone has sat down and measured the lumens output on an icecap LOA and the others. I am sooo curious now. I will be buying the new ballasts in possibly feb or march. But I want it set up and ready to go before hand. I will run each ballast for about a month measuring data each day and recording it.

I'd just like to see some factual numbers. As it stands now I have only heard what people are assuming what is happeneing. No real numbers. And I dont assume. It makes and A$$ out of U and ME.

I know a lot of you here have loads of experience with lighting care to help?

nuff said.

Any input or help is welcomed. Assistance as well.

Hi,

You can rent them from any professional camera place. Kerrisdale Cameras, Broadway Cameras and etc...might have them.

OR...if you have an SLR with a good fast lens...then you can use that. The thing you'll need a gray card to make an accurate measurement.

How about this...setup your camera to take a picture of your reef. Set the camera to be same for every shot...and just change the lights. Any "noticable" change in lighting should be seen in the pictures.

- Victor.

Good idea Victor. I will do that to supplement the data collected.

Because I have seen posts where lighting was comparead and some people were so set in their ways they wouldn't see an obvious difference.

Well guys,

I am gonna do it..

I will be buying a few ballasts over the next little while and am going to start measuring everything I can with them. I have access to a lot of equipment thanks to my instructors at BCIT. And will look into renting or buying a light meter of some sort. I just want to know what the real numbers are.. None of this guessing..

Anyone want in on this to help? I will probably be buying a PFO ballast soon as well as a couple from albrite. Victor cna you help me with those numbers I need?

I want to drive 3 95W VHO lamps. They will all be actinic. Or a combination of VHO lamps It will be the same for all ballasts.

Let me know.

You could always ask Dana Riddle. There is a very real chance he's already done this work. I don't think Sanjay messed around with any types of florescents but you never know. It wouldn't hurt to ask him as well. Sanjay often shows up on #reefs .
